Windows 10 Virtual Desktops - change taskbar buttons behavior

Anonym vor 9 Jahren 0

Feature request: add an option to always indicate that an app is already running on another desktop (a dot under icon? maybe different underline color?) as the default set of features in Windows 10 leaves a lot to be desired.

Right now under Settings > System > Mutitasking we can choose between the taskbar showing only the windows that are open on current desktop or windows from all desktops.

The first option is better for organizing work (the point of Virtual Desktops) but it makes it impossible to switch easily between different windows of the same app that are spread between desktops. Try this: set the option to "Only the desktop I'm using", then run two instances of an app on Desktop 1 and go to Desktop 2. There is no indication that the app is open on Desktop 1.
The solution is to switch to "All desktops" - the windows preview pops up, allowing the switching. Now run another instance of the app on Desktop 2. You can switch between the 3 windows, but there is no way of telling which is open on the current desktop or another. This option is also messy if you choose to never combine taskbar buttons, as the taskbar quickly becomes filled with wide buttons of apps from all the desktops.

The solution would be to discreetly indicate apps that are active on other desktops, e.g. with a different underline color or size, and allowing to always show window preview. Also, when automatically decombining buttons using 7TT, it would be nice to differentiate between the decombined buttons from the current and other desktops.

Additionally, I choose to never combine taskbar buttons - for me, it would be nice to show a combined and underlined app button when none of its windows are present on the current desktop.

I hope this isn't too much to ask. Thanks for the software as it is!

Option to make changes permanent if possible

Anonym vor 9 Jahren aktualisiert vor 9 Jahren 2
I have installed 7tt expecting these changes to be permanent and I see how most people like the fact that this is not a reg hack, but, as always, I'm that one exception that doesn't like running a process to keep those settings alive and I'm sure I'm not the only one. So in my opinion it would be great if there was an option to make changes permanent. I'm sure if this is possible, the hardest part would be to make the interface, but something tells me though, that this is not realistic.

I have made some registry hacks myself, but I'm not really that experienced, so I don't even know if any option could be permanent and stable. But this is just an idea...
I will look into this and make an application myself if I can make certain changes permanent (in my VM).

Something to note: after all this doesn't change much since a single process that monitors a taskbar is less CPU intensive than my audio driver, but I just don't like 3rd party processes just to keep settings alive, it just doesn't look that functional to me, and also... Placebo...

That's not possible. Please read the FAQ here.
As for CPU usage, it's nearly zero. The only thing the tweaker does in the background is checking for updates every 24 hours, if the option is enabled. Other than that, it's completely idle (except when you open the GUI or restart explorer).

Icon of closed window blocking active window to take its spot in the taskbar

hurda vor 11 Jahren aktualisiert von Michael (Ramen Software) vor 9 Jahren 8

Prerequisite:

- 7tt 4.4

- Settings: http://i.imgur.com/nROIhh9.png

- Any program which opens a window before the actual main window pinned to the taskbar

I used Firefox and its commandline-parameter to open the Error Console on start, so the target looks like

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -jsconsole
Additional info: http://i.imgur.com/r3iSpMi.png

STR:
After clicking on the tabbar icon, Firefox starts the Error console window (left Firefox-icon) and then the main window.
The taskbar and the Inspector look like "BEFORE" in the image.

If you close the Error Console, the active main window isn't taking over its spot in the taskbar, see "AFTER" in the image.

If you then close the main window, everything goes back to normal, see "CLOSED" in the image.

This does not happen with 7tt disabled and Win7 set to "never group".

Workaround:
To get the main window to take over the spot of the closed Error Console, switching from "Don't combine grouped buttons" to "Combine grouped buttons" and back fixes the problem temporarily for this instance.

Remove title but still leave the icon expanded/uncombined

Friend on reddit has this effect from a theme pack:

The icons are centred in the taskbar and the tile is expanded but there's no label. Would there be any way for something like this to be added to 7+?

Task button uniform width when they are in two rows

Alexander Petrov vor 10 Jahren aktualisiert von Michael (Ramen Software) vor 10 Jahren 3
When task bar buttons are in two rows the second row buttons are wider then the first row ones (the picture attached). Windows 8. Could be nice if they were the same width.

Thanks for your wonderful program!

Such feature already exists as an advanced option, labeled as multirow_equal_width.
Please see the help file for more details.

The Feauture "Drag within/between groups using right mouse button" Stopped Working for Me

Anonym vor 10 Jahren aktualisiert von Jorge24 vor 10 Jahren 8
I can drag within groups but not between groups when there is more than one item in the group. When there is just one item, I can drag the taskbar group icon into another group and the single item inside it will transfer. However, when there are multiple items inside the group I can't drag the taskbar icon nor the items into other groups. I am using Windows 8.1 64-bit with the latest updates.

There's not much I can do with the provided details.
If that's still relevant, please either provide a way to reproduce the issue, or try to find out which option of the tweaker, if any, causes it.
A video which demonstrates the bug might also help.

tweaker userecho cannot set up profile

Anonym vor 10 Jahren aktualisiert von Michael (Ramen Software) vor 10 Jahren 3
tweaker userecho password cannot be reset - no option in profile.
I can't maintain userecho profile - when I ask for password reset it sends me an email but it doesn't go to a page where I can reset a password. I have an orphaned account now. Have tried three times. leanne@pkc.net.au/LongtimeUser.

Feature request: "Cycle through windows" only cycles through windows on the current taskbar (for multiple displays)

Anonym vor 10 Jahren aktualisiert von Michael (Ramen Software) vor 10 Jahren 2
With multiple displays when using the "Show taskbar buttons on" options of "Main taskbar and taskbar where window is open" or "Taskbar where window is open" it would be really useful if there was an option to only cycle through the windows on that taskbar.

So if for instance my taskbar was set to "Main taskbar and taskbar where window is open" and I had four Explorer windows open in total and two of those were on the secondary display then clicking on the Explorer item on the main display would cycle through all four and clicking on the Explorer item on the secondary display would cycle through just the two on that display.

I just checked it, and it works just like you described:
If you set "Main taskbar and taskbar where window is open" and open, say, five explorer windows, two of which are on the secondary monitor, then scrolling over the main taskbar scrolls between the five, while scrolling over the secondary taskbar scrolls between the two which are on that specific monitor.

If you meant something else and I misunderstood the issue, please let me know.

Add modifier key to sometimes override Middle-click to close a program on the taskbar

Paul Ross vor 11 Jahren aktualisiert von Michael (Ramen Software) vor 11 Jahren 1
EDIT: Never mind, I found that there Advanced options and I was able to do it there.

Please delete this idea! :-)
==============================

Hi there.

I use the setting to allow middle-click to close a window 99% of the time, for example, I have 6 Windows Exporer windows open, and I want to close a few of them, so middle-click on the ones I don't want - life saver!

But ocassionally I want to open one or two more, so need to right-click on one of them and select Windows Explorer. What I would like to do is be able to select a modifier key (Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Win) that temporarily disables middle-click to close, and instead reverts it to its default function of middle-click to spawn a new program instance.

Can you please add this!

Great :)
Also, one more hotkey Windows provides by default is Shift + Left click.
