Fix Reshuffling of Taskbar Buttons Whenever Windows Explorer Crashes (or Is Killed)

EveryDirection 9 years ago updated by Michael (Ramen Software) 7 years ago 1

Whenever Windows Explorer (not the whole computer machine/system, but just explorer.exe) crashes (or is killed), when Windows Explorer restarts (again, not the whole computer machine/system, but just explorer.exe), the order of taskbar buttons within a group gets shuffled according to which window was last activated instead of retaining the order before the crash.

Steps to reproduce:

(1) Make sure that grouping is ON and combining is OFF (that is, make sure that "Group by Application ID" is on, and that "Don't combine grouped buttons" is on).

(2) Start up 5 instances/windows of the SAME application (it is important that it be the same application, because the shuffling only occurs within multiple buttons of the same group). We'll refer to these 5 instances, in order from left to right, as Window A, Window B, Window C, Window D, and Window E.

(3) Click on those 5 windows, or their taskbar buttons, in some random order. For example, click on the windows in the order B -> E -> A -> D -> C.

(4) Use Windows Task Manager to first kill explorer.exe. As expected since Explorer has been killed, this will cause the taskbar to temporarily disappear.

(5) Use Windows Task Manager to start explorer.exe again. The taskbar returns -- but the problem is that the taskbar buttons are now arranged in order, from left to right, according to the order in which the windows last received focus (so, using the example above, we would get C -> D -> A -> E -> B, the reverse of the order in which we clicked on the windows) instead of the original order (A -> B -> C -> D -> E).

When Windows Explorer starts again after a crash or kill, Taskbar Tweaker should correctly order the taskbar buttons in the same order they were in before the crash (Taskbar Tweaker should do this either automatically or at an explicit command by the user).

Thanks in advance!

Cannot install update

Am getting an error message saying that the update is incompatible with 64-bit Windows:

I have tried this update at various times, as I believe that you earlier thought that this was due to excess traffic on the server hosting the update, but I always get the same result. Any ideas? Thanks.

Option broken? Left click on active thumbnail minimizes the window

CoDEmanX 9 years ago updated by Michael (Ramen Software) 9 years ago 4
Hi,
I enabled the "Left click on active thumbnail minimizes the window" option in the Thumbnails category, but if I right-click on a thumbnail preview, the native window menu is shown (Restore, Minimize, Close...).

I'm using Tweaker v5.0 on Windows 8.1

Left click on combined items does not fit the space provided

Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64. Video is ATI FirePro V (FireGL V), monitor is Samsung SA650 24-inch, resolution is 1920x1080 @ 60Hz.

The crucial part: screen resolution is set to 125%. (What is it? 120 dpi?) The applcation does not seem to obey non-default resolution.

Completely hide the start button in Windows 8.1

PacMani 11 years ago updated by Michael (Ramen Software) 11 years ago 0
The start button in Windows 8.1 can be hidden yet, but still pops up if you move the mouse to the bottom left. Then, it even overlaps the first icon open in the taskbar.

It often happens to me that I accidentaly make the start button visible even though I just wanted to click on the first itme in the taskbar, but that one is then overlapped and hard to hit.

Make it possible to hide the button completely, as in Windows 7 (the button doesn't appear, but a click in the left most pixel line still opens the start menu / screen).

Remove progress bar

Anonymous 9 years ago updated by Bryan Kirk 7 years ago 2

Amazing program! Don't know how to live without it.

A suggestion, if you don't mind - would it be possible to somehow disable the progress bar? I'm talking about this incredibly annoying green or yellow bar that appears in taskbar icons when downloading stuff or playing video. It's useless and distracting

Option for themed taskbar buttons on Windows 10

Anonymous 9 years ago 0
Not exactly sure if it's possible to apply to the Windows 10 taskbar, but it would cool if there was an option to apply the theming to the buttons.
Thinking of something along the lines of SetWindowTheme(hwnd, L"TaskBar::Toolbar", L"Toolbar"), if it's possible to get the handles and set the themes of them of course.

I'm personally using a Win 7 theme and even faked my taskbar by making it transparent and putting a aero styled one on the background image, but these flat buttons still bother me. 7+ Taskbar Tweaker was already a big help and this would be pretty cool imo.
