Reduce the distance between the icons in the system tray.
System tray occupies too much space in the taskbar as compared with Windows XP. It would be good to add an option to reduce the distance between the icons.
Answer
I totally agree, this has annoyed me for quite some time. I like the idea of having big widescreen monitors to fit more stuff in the "workflow", and I feel Microsoft did the opposite by increasing the gap/distance between the icons in the Notification Area/system tray. I'm glad I'm not the only one annoyed by this. I have twenty icons or more and it looks weird (and yes, I want them visible at all times, not hide them)!
I noticed that when a program adds an icon to the notification area
which previously never had one there, the icon has the normal padding.
You have to click on the "show hidden symbols" icon to remove its
padding too.
This also happens with the 7tt-icon after the automatic restart after updating 7tt.

I believe that what you're seeing is a so-called "Temporary notification source".

The temporary icon is by default more distant than the other icons.

Is this still working? I don't see any difference when I change "tray_icons_padding"
tray_icons_padding is supported in Windows 10 since 7+ Taskbar Tweaker v5.2, but it's implemented differently.
