always_show_thumb_labels doesn't seem to be working

Anonyymi 11 vuodet sitten pävittänyt Michael (Ramen Software) 11 vuodet sitten 7

The registry option "always_show_thumb_labels" doesn't seem to have any effect.

I'm using 7+ Taskbar Tweaker v4.3.1.

Also, is there a way to change the delay before the tooltips are shown. I would like to make them show faster.

I need more details to try and reproduce it.

Please provide me with:

* Your Windows version - 7/8/8.1 32/64 bit.

* A screenshot of the tweaker's options you're using.

* A screenshot of the taskbar's properties.

As for the hover delay, see:

This option is working just fine on Windows 7 x64 (v4.3.1)

You do realize that 'label' refers to the icon and text directly above the thumbnail (not a tooltip)

Plus, it only kicks in when a taskbar button is showing a label, because that's when the thumbnail won't show a label by default. in other words, the difference is, only when you see a title on the taskbar button.

As far as tooltips go, 7TT will show them quicker if you choose 'tooltip' instead of 'thumbnail preview' in the main dialog.  (That's the only way it currently effects tooltips, but maybe rammichael can make that global)

Yea, I misunderstood what "always_show_thumb_labels" does. Sorry about that.

About the speed of the tooltip. Thanks for the tip, but:

I'm using the option: "Hovering" > "Tooltip". And I did change the options and registry keys to make them appear faster. I've tried from anything between 0 and 5000. And it's actually doing something. It's affecting the speed of the tooltips shown by some apps. When I set it to zero, it gets really annoying. But... it doesn't  affect the speed of the tooltips shown by the taskbar buttons. It always takes like 2 seconds. I tried with "Show thumbnail preview" to see if that changed, but nope. Takes like 2 seconds no matter what I do. It may be a problem with my system. I'll investigate and post here If I find a solution.

Try ExtendedUIHoverTime in that same location, create a DWORD value by that name at:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse

Enter the same value you would have used for MouseHoverTime.

This is intended to define the delay for thumbnail previews, but it may inadvertently affect how quickly the tooltips appear.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I also found about the DWORD DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime on:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\

I'll try both and report back.

OK, finally found something that works. It's the ExtendedUIHoverTime you mention. But it doesn't work if I place it under:

HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse\
For it to work, at least on my system, it has to be placed at:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\

It works, both for the live thumbnail previews and the tooltips :D

Thanks for your help. It's working perfect now :)

To make it even better, It would be nice to have an option on 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to show the tooltips, even when the text fits within the button. Right now, it's only shown when the text doesn't fit.

Why would I use such a setting?

Because, that way one can easily read the text... On Windows 7, It can be really hard to read it from the button itself sometimes.

That's the way Windows XP works. The tooltip is shown whether the text fits or not. It makes things more predictable, I think. You always expect to see it if you park the mouse over the button.

You might want to create a new suggestion ticket about it.
