After Win10 update, middle clicking on combined/grouped items no longer displays group of thumbnail previews.

I'm not exactly sure what the difference between combined and grouped is, but after updating my Windows 10 version (bad idea I know), the functionality that showed a group of thumbnail previews when you middle clicked on a combined/grouped item no longer works.

I'm guessing the functionality is broken across the app, because "Open last window if active, otherwise open thumbnail preview" fails to show a group of thumbnails as well.

It looks like the thumbnails appear for half a second and then they disappear.

I've re-installed the app and even cleared my settings.

Edition Windows 10 Enterprise
Version 20H2
Installed on ‎3/‎16/‎2021
OS build 19042.1165
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0

I've posted a screenshot of my app settings:

I can't reproduce the problem. Does it happen when the tweaker is not running? If not, does the issue happen when all of the tweaker options are off? If not, can you find the option that causes the issue?

Wow thanks for the quick reply.

So I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I just disabled and re-enabled:

  • Enable Peek
  • Show thumbnails instead of icons

in Windows 10 Visual Effects, and now the app is working like it used to work.

Maybe something got set/unset/reset when I updated Windows?

I'll try to figure out the sequence of events that broke it, reproduce it and report back later.

In the meantime, can you explain the difference between Grouping and Combing? ha

thanks

I'm glad that it's working now, I'm closing the issue. If it comes back or if you find a way to reproduce it, leave a reply and I'll reopen it.

Regarding grouping vs. combining, you can find the answer in the help file:

so i've been doing a lot of testing and it appears as if it's not related to 7TT at all, but i'll post this just in case you're curious

i guess things get weird in Win10 when you have the taskbar at the top

after encountering the issue again, i noticed that it only happened when the taskbar was NOT on the bottom

i also noticed that when the taskbar is at the bottom, there is a "News and Interests" section that also shows the Weather (i've never seen this because my taskbar is always at the top)

i moved the taskbar to the bottom, disabled the news and interests section, moved the taskbar back to the top, and now everything works as it did pre-Win10 update
