Groups sometimes don't expand when switching desktops

superluig164 5 years ago updated 5 years ago 5

Sometimes, when switching desktops in Windows 10, groups of windows on the destination desktop, when set to expand with titles, will stay in the shape of a single icon, but will have no text or icons.  Both items are there, just very small with no labels.  It seems like the expansion process gets stopped in the middle.

Thanks for the report.

Does it happen often for you? Do you have a stable way to reproduce it?

Yes, my best example is Google Chrome, but I'm sure it works with other apps.

1. Create two or more desktops

2. In one desktop, open 2 or more Chrome windows.

3. In an adjacent desktop, open only one Chrome window.

4. Set 7tt to expand the focused group and also show titles, but not so if there is no group.

5. Focus a Chrome window in both desktops.

6. Use Win+Ctrl+Left/Right to switch from the desktop with one Chrome window, to the desktop with more than one Chrome window.

7. Observe.

8. Reflect.

9. Improvise.

10. Adapt.

11. Overcome.

I couldn't reproduce it. A recording of me trying is below.

Do you have taskbar animations turned off? Are you using the virtual_desktop_order_fix advanced option?

I'm not using either of those options.  I will make a screen recording after work today.

Side note, the bug fixes itself if I focus a non-Chrome window and then refocus without switching desktops.
